I always get excited when we decide to have a pizza night, because my fiancée slides her uneaten crusts onto my plate when she finishes. Win-win, well, I don’t know where her ‘win’ is, but it’s a definite ‘win’ for me.
I'll start off my review of the pizza by saying Fortunato Brothers has the best chopped tomato pizza I have ever had. We ordered a large pizza, half chopped tomato and half pepperoni. After a few bites of pepperoni, we wished we would have ordered straight up chopped tomato.
The quality of the tomato was perfect: firm and full of flavor. The basil was fragrant and added the perfect compliment to the tomato. Finally, the garlic. Like a child holding a hand of each parent to complete the perfect family as they skip through the park, the garlic adds a nice subtle flavor to complete the ensemble. Another great quality, in my not-so-humble opinion, of this pizza is that it’s sauce less. The flavor harmony is perfect and I imagine the sauce just wouldn’t quite fit.
The pepperoni half was the lesser of the two. The pepperoni was more salty than spicy and my preference is the other way around. It was light on the sauce, which is a good thing because it is sweet and too much would distract from the rest of the flavors (much like the powerful salty pepperoni).
Will we go back again? Yes. This is the best pizza place within pick-up-and-drive-it-home distance from my house. We will not bother with the pepperoni ever again, but I can’t say enough about the chopped tomato. This is big coming from a person who doesn’t care for tomatoes unless they’re absolutely perfect.

My wife and I are NJ natives living in MD so we're a little snobby when it comes to pizza. But we both agree that Forunato's is one of the best in the area. Love their Margherita and I also dig the tomato rolls that they do with the chopped tomatoes and olive oil on the small loaf. They're great to heat up and munch. Love the blog!
ReplyDeleteI am lucky enough -- or should I say "fortunate" enough -- to live within walking distance of Fortunato's. I love their pizza, and it has brightened many a dreary day for me!
